2 More Major Movies That Won't Be Available With MoviePass

MoviePass made a lot of users upset over this past weekend when Mission: Impossible - Fallout was blacked out by the subscription service. Now, it looks like other upcoming films will suffer the same fate. Today MoviePass announced changes to its subscription service that, among other things, will blackout films that debut on more than 1,000 screens for the first two weeks of release. That means that two major August releases, Disney's Christopher Robin and Jason Statham monster movie The Meg will both also be unavailable when they hit theaters.

While this decision has reportedly been made in order to keep MoviePass from losing money, something which became apparent last week when the subscription service actually went down until it was able to get an infusion of cash to keep things going, it likely will cause some percentage of MoviePass subscribers to cancel their subscriptions. If you're the sort that goes out opening weekend to see all your movies, then MoviePass simply loses value if you can't use it.

While neither Christopher Robin nor The Meg are likely the sorts of films that will be full of the sorts of spoilers that fans want to avoid until they see it, seeing a big movie opening weekend is often a defense mechanism for fans who want to be sure they're not spoiled. Few are going to want to wait two weeks after the next Marvel Cinematic Universe movie comes out in order to use their MoviePass subscription to see it. They might be willing to use it to see a movie a second time if it's worth it.

It seems that MoviePass parent company Helios and Matheson just can't catch a break. They've been trying everything in order to keep MoviePass going, and keep the stock price up, but according to The Playlist, stock is now back to trading below $1 per share, after the company initiated a reverse stock split in order to get the share price back up.

While there are certainly some movies that some people won't mind waiting to see, it remains to be seen if there are enough of those people, and enough of those movies, that will keep MoviePass going. If too many people want to experience The Meg and other films on opening weekend then MoviePass simply won't be the convenient solution it once was. This could drive movie fans to competitive services like Sinemia or AMC Stubs A-List, or simply result in them going back to the standard process of buying tickets one at a time. At least that way there's no hassle, beyond finding a good seat.

Sex sells, as they say, and that means that sex in movies and on television (where allowed) is as popular now as it has ever been. However, Julianne Moore, who has filmed her share of those scenes over the years, has a problem with movie sex scenes. She doesn't think they shouldn't exist, but she says it would be nice if they resembled real life sex a bit more. Moore would apparently have a real problem if an actual sexual encounter played out the way it frequently does on the big screen. According to the actress...

People never have sex the way they do in the movies. You see that in these old sexy movies where somebody rips somebodys blouse off. Id be so upset if someone tore the buttons off my shirt. [laughing] Id be What are you doing?'

It has to be said, I'd love to see a scene in a movie where two people begin to have sex, only to have the encounter stopped cold when he rips her shirt and she screams "dude, what the hell? That was a perfectly good shirt." I feel like in real life that would totally kill the mood. More than one actual sexual encounter has probably ended because somebody tried to recreate what they'd seen in the movies only to discover it doesn't really work like that.

Sex is almost always perfect and passionate in the movies. Of course, while the characters and stories and films are meant to be relatable, they're also meant to be somewhat larger than life. Everything is always perfect in the movies, including the sex.

Julianne Moore tells People she wanted her new film, Gloria Bell, to portray sex a bit more realistically. In this case, that meant making the sex look a bit more awkward than we're used to seeing on screen. Her character begins a new relationship in the film, so the sex isn't full of Hollywood magic, because that's rarely if ever what sex looks like, especially the first time.

I do think that sex is challenging especially with someone brand new. Its easy to have sex with someone youve known for a really long time. What we wanted to depict in Gloria Bell was the reality of that. We wanted it to be real and not fake.

Not every movie needs to have perfectly realistic sex scenes. Those scenes, like all the others, should fit together in a way that makes sense. Gloria Bell is very much a movie about reality. It focuses on Julianne Moore as the title character, an older woman trying to navigate her life. It's a very grounded movie and making the sex scenes feel anything less than real would have been a disservice to the rest of the film.

David Ayer Finally Explained A Deleted Joker Scene From Suicide Squad

The DC Extended Universe is a tricky place. While Marvel methodically introduced characters in solo movies before eventually uniting them in The Avengers, the DCEU went a different route. Large ensemble casts were assembled, including the motley crew of David Ayer's Suicide Squad. Anticipation for the villain-centric blockbuster was at a fever pitch when the first trailers were released, although the final product left much to be desired. Extensive reshoots were done and plenty of scenes ended up on the cutting room floor, and now we know a bit more about one particular Joker scene thanks to the director himself.

A fan on Twitter recently asked David Ayer about Suicide Squad's deleted scenes-- one that featured a slightly charred Joker. The Bright director was surprisingly chatty, and revealed exactly what that scene would have entailed, saying:

After Joker dropped Harley Quinn from the help and crashed, Enchantress made a deal with him. He was going to take Harley home and be "King of Gotham" Harley stood up to him and refused to betray her new friends. The Squad turned on him and he escaped.

Does anybody else have FOMO right about now? This deleted Suicide Squad scene seems like an excellent way to wrap up Harley's story in the movie, and the internal conflict she's feeling between the Squad and her puddin'. It's actually quite surprising this ended up being cut, as Margot Robbie's character was by far the star of the movie.

The handling of The Joker was one of the biggest points of contention in Suicide Squad, especially for hardcore comic book fans. Fans were eager to see what Jared Leto would do with the iconic villain, especially as tales of his crazy onset antics and method acting began swirling around the internet. But the film's cuts and reshoots resulted in far less screen time for the Clown Prince of Crime, something which Leto himself seems to take umbrage with.

Regardless of whether or not fans liked Jared Leto's characterization for Joker, Suicide Squad's theatrical cut definitely shoved the iconic villain into the background. While it was important for moviegoers to watch Harley Quinn's origin story and why she was eventually arrested by Batman, Joker's involvement in the main conflict felt more like an after thought. He popped in to rescue Harley... and then comes back in the end to once again attempt to break her out of prison. But the deleted scene would have changed that, and made Joker a more integral part of the narrative.

It should be interesting to see where Joker goes in the DCEU from here. There are quite a few projects in development including a Joker origin movie, a Joker/Harley movie, as well as Suicide Squad 2. So hopefully Jared Leto will have the chance to properly shine in a future installment.
