Netflix's 6 Balloons Trailer Teases A Dark And Emotional Performance By Dave Franco

At this point in his career, it wouldn't be unfair to say that Dave Franco is best known as a comedic actor and the younger brother of James Franco. But while his most famous roles are probably in Now You See Me, 21 Jump Street and Neighbors, Dave Franco is continuing to branch out beyond those types of films, and his latest role looks to be his most emotionally powerful yet. Dave Franco stars opposite Broad City's Abbi Jacobson in Netflix's 6 Balloons, and based on the trailer, he is turning in a dark and powerful performance.

This trailer certainly gets dark quick and shows that this will probably not be an easy film to watch. What's effective about this trailer is that it shows Dave Franco's character, Seth, being a bright and happy person and having fun with his sister and daughter before we learn what's really going on: he's a heroin addict. We don't find out a lot about him here, but we do see quick glimpses of Seth going through withdrawal and begging for another fix. Dave Franco looks to be giving a raw and emotional performance here as Seth struggles with his addiction as it impacts the lives of those around him.

6 Balloons seems to be telling this story from Abbi Jacobson's Katie's perspective. Her character is in the extremely difficult position of having someone she loves at the mercy of his own addiction. Katie confronting Seth about his addiction is an incredibly tough situation to be in, and one that unfortunately many people have had to experience. Katie always wants to believe in him and hope that he can overcome this, and as a result she winds up enabling him. By the looks of the trailer, Seth's life isn't the only one put in danger as a result of his addiction.

Netflix's original movies have gained a lot of attention of late, as the streaming service has pumped out buzzworthy and flashy titles from exciting creatives, only for those films to fall short critically. 6 Balloons comes from writer and director Marja-Lewis Ryan, and this is the kind of independent-type film that the Netflix model allows for. A small film from a relatively unknown director about heroin addiction isn't exactly box office gold, but hopefully with the opioid epidemic remaining a real issue in America, this movie will provide a nuanced take on the subject, showing that addicts do not exist in a vacuum, but they are people with families who care about them.

In addition to 6 Balloons, Dave Franco next stars in his brother's The Disaster Artist follow-up, Zeroville, and then he joins Oscar-winner and Moonlight director Barry Jenkins next film, If Beale Street Could Talk. 6 Balloons premieres on Netflix April 6. Arguably the most famous actor joining the John Wick franchise for Chapter 3, a.k.a. Parabellum, is Halle Berry, who, like Keanu Reeves, is playing a dog-loving assassin. Weve seen snippets of Berrys Sofia in the John Wick: Chapter 3 trailers, but now theres a new clip showing John asking for her help in the midst of his latest crisis.

John Wick: Chapter 3 picks up right after the events of Chapter 2, with the High Table about to send out a $14 million bounty on Johns head for killing Santino DAntonio. Its a good bet that by the time the above Chapter 3 scene occurs, assassins are already on the hunt for John, but as weve seen over two movies, hes quite resourceful at avoiding being killed. Somehow hes managed to seek refuge at the hotel being run by Sofia, who we already knew was an old friend of his.

However, times have changed since John and Sofia were last close, and she makes it clear to him that because shes management now, she cant go around shooting people like hes been doing. John assures her he just wants to talk to her old boss for guidance. Sofia doubts this will work out, because even if John doesnt kill this boss (Barada?), she suspects the boss will kill him and then her for allowing John to walk in.

As Sofia said in one of the John Wick: Chapter 3 previews, nothing is ever just a conversation with John, so even though he intends not to discharge a firearm for this meeting he wants, its a good bet bullets will start flying anyway. And when bullets start flying, bodies will inevitably drop, and John Wick has left a lot of carnage in his wake recently.

In any case, despite Sofias hesitance to help John out in this Chapter 3 clip, we know eventually shell cave and join him on his mission, although in another preview, she told him that after this, they are less than even. Still, at least itll be nice for John to finally have some backup, including Sofias vicious hounds.

Although Sofia isnt particularly jazzed to be teaming up with John Wick in Chapter 3, Halle Berry is unquestionably a fan of this action franchise, as we learned in March that she asked director Chad Stahelski for a part in Chapter 3. The script for the threequel hadnt even been written when Berry first approached Stahelski, but once it was completed, he got back in touch with her and she was still game to jump in.

Along with Halle Berrys Sofia, John Wick: Chapter 3 is also introducing characters like Mark Dacascos Zero, Angelica Hustons The Director, Asia Kate Dillons The Adjudicator, Jason Mantozoukas Tick Tock Man, Sad Taghmaouis The Elder and Robin Lord Taylors The Administrator. As far as familiar faces go, Ian McShanes Winston, Lance Reddicks Charon, Laurence Fishburnes Bowery King and John Leguizamos Aurelio are all back.

That Time The Nun Director Saw Ghosts On His Film Set

Do you want to know one sure-fire way to make your horror movie 100% scarier? Have actual ghosts visit your film set. If this practice actually works, then Corin Hardy's The Nun will be bone-chillingly terrifying, as the director spins an unnerving story of an encounter he had with two spirits while trying to secure a complicated shot in a creepy Romanian castle. Really, it's better to let Hardy tell this story. He relays it really well:

We listened to Corin Hardy tell this story during New Line's ScareDiego horror film-fest event, which has become an annual tradition for horror lovers on Wednesday night as the kickoff of Comic-Con. So when The Nun director swung by CinemaBlend's interview suite in San Diego, we asked him to rekindle some of our worst nightmares by relaying it one more time. He added a few juicy details. It doesn't disappoint.

This is why we are holding out hope that The Nun won't disappoint, either. And the footage that we saw from the movie at ScareDiego goes a long way toward setting up another satisfying chapter in the growing Conjuring Shared Universe. The character of the Nun was recently showcased in James Wan's The Conjuring 2, and Wan receives screenwriting credits on Corin Hardy's feature film (alongside Gary Dauberman, who is directing the next Annabelle movie). And Hardy tells CinemaBlend that The Nun will explore some of the valuable backstory of the malevolent force that threatens a novitiate (Taissa Farmiga) and a seasoned priest (Demian Bichir) when they investigate a nun who takes her own life.

As fun as Corin Hardy's story was, the sight of him holding a small doll of his terrifying nun while also wearing a mock Infinity Gauntlet basically wins the day at the CinemaBlend video suite:

The Conjuring universe continues to grow with new horror tales like The Nun, which looks to take full advantage of the fact that it's set in the 1950s, and shot in Romanian castles and fortresses. The footage that we were able to see at the ScareDiego event had a mood and an atmosphere that was different from anything established in either James Wan's Conjuring films, or the two Annabelle stories. And Corin Hardy suggested that The Nun could inspire a traditional sequel, or it could lead to a spinoff for a potentially interesting character that people will meet in this movie... much the same way that audiences were introduced to the Nun in a Conjuring film, giving her a new platform of her own to terrify.

The Nun opens in theaters on September 7.

Bond 25 Will Bring Back Lea Seydoux, Ralph Fiennes And More Familiar Faces

Besides Daniel Craig's eventual resignation of the mantle 007, the big question surrounding Bond 25 has been who else is returning for the upcoming sequel. The subject has been rather coyly dealt, as most parties would be shy to say anything so far out from its release. Director Cary Joji Fukunaga apparently lacks that shyness though, as he recently told a journalist that not only will Lea Seydoux's Dr. Madeline Swann be coming back, but also Ralph Fiennes's M, Ben Whishaw's Q, and Naomie Harris' Moneypenny.

When explaining why these characters, and their actors, would be coming back, Fukunaga had this to say:

You have some of the best actors in the world here. Why wouldn't I have the best coming back?!

Bringing back Lea Seydoux is a pretty big move, as it's the first time that a female lead character, who isn't M or Moneypenny, has returned in a James Bond film in years. This could be an indication that Bond 25 is a direct follow-up to Spectre, keeping the threaded narrative approach alive in the series. Besides that point, there's another good reason for this extensive of a cast retention.

Cary Joji Fukunaga's statement about keeping the best actors in this canon can't be argued with, particularly when you take into account how some fans may have seen Spectre as a less than ideal follow up to Skyfall. With Bond 25 being the capper to Craig's tenure as James Bond, and a new director shaking things up in the franchise, you're going to want to have as strong a team as you possibly can to support the sequel.

Familiar faces certainly help keep things moving in a series such as the James Bond franchise, and Fukunaga's comments to The Daily Mail partially speaks to that. Though there is still one particular casting card in the deck that remain to be played, as the finale of Spectre left the door open for the return of one particular party that is of notice: Christoph Waltz's Blofeld.

The actor hasn't commented on whether he'll be returning for Bond 25, but given the former tradition of different actors playing the role, his participation is less than guaranteed. Although seeing as Christoph Waltz's rumored departure was bundled into the same dismissal that Cary Joji Fukunaga issued involving Waltz and Ben Whishaw's rumored exits, there's still a chance that we might see his Blofeld again.

And let's not forget, Christoph Waltz knows how to keep a secret, even if it's in plain sight, as he denied he was even playing the part up and down during Spectre's press tour. So if you didn't think that story was interesting enough, you're in luck.

For now, all we know is this: the threads woven in Casino Royale are about to tie together in Bond 25, and a good number of familiar faces look to be joining Daniel Craig in winding that story up properly.

Bond 25 starts shooting early in 2019, with a February 14th, 2020 release date set.
