Are The Transformers Movies Being Rebooted After Bumblebee?

The Transformers were already a valued intellectual property for several decades before the first live action movie was released in 2007, but there's no question that the film series boosted the robots in disguise's popularity even higher. As of last June, there are five movies that in the series, and the sixth entry will be the Bumblebee spinoff, arriving in theaters this December. However, word has come in that after the yellow Autobot's prequel adventure has been released, Paramount Pictures intends to reboot the entire franchise.

Currently Transformers 6 is scheduled to come out on June 28, 2019, and back in 2015, a writers room was assembled to come up with sequels, prequels and spinoffs that would turn the Transformers film series into a full-blown cinematic universe. However, TFW 2005 heard from Hasbro, the company that's been making Transformers toys since the beginning, at the Toy Fair 2018 Hasbro Investor Preview that Paramount is bringing in a new team to "reset" the Transformers film franchise after Bumblebee is released. While an update like this is worth taking with a grain of salt, it's also worth mentioning that Transformers 6 has been removed from Hasbro-Paramount's slate of upcoming movies. It was also reported that as part of its new agreement with Paramount, Hasbro will supposedly have greater control over these movies, including which ones are greenlit.

Given that Transformers: The Last Knight ended with Optimus Prime sending out a message into the universe for all surviving Autobots to return to help rebuild Cybertron and a disguised Quintessa informing a group of scientists how to destroy Unicorn (which is actually Earth), one could logically surmise that Paramount intended to release at least one more main Transformers installment. However, assuming this new information is correct, it sounds like the series will instead end on a cliffhanger, and once the 1987-set Bumblebee has been released, Paramount has Hasbro will pack up shop and start from scratch. Director Michael Bay left the Transformers world behind after helming The Last Knight, and with Bumblebee being a relatively self-contained story, it's possible the companies feel like now is the time for a new beginning.

We also can't rule out that Paramount and Hasbro want the rebooted Transformers to be part of the Hasbro Cinematic Universe. Currently there are four other Hasbro-Paramount movies confirmed to be on the way: G.I. Joe (a reboot), Micronauts, Dungeons & Dragons and the untitled Paramount/Hasbro event film. While I suspect Dungeons & Dragons will stand on its own, it's already been confirmed that the goal is for G.I. Joe and Micronauts to inhabit the same world. Transformers is obviously one of Hasbro's most popular toy lines, so if this particular franchise plan is moving forward, it's not a shocker to think that the company wants the gigantic robots involved, potentially interacting with G.I. Joe and Micronauts in that event film.

How Hobbs And Shaw Will Be Different From The Fast And Furious Movies, According To Jason Statham

The next Fast and Furious franchise movie won't include the entire cast, but is that the only way it will be different than the other films in the series? Jason Statham says he expects Hobbs and Shaw, the new spinoff starring himself and Dwayne Johnson, will be a bit more grounded and a bit darker than the more recent Fast and Furious movies have been. He chalks this up to the style of David Leitch, who is on board to direct the film. According to Statham...

I think Dave Leitch's taste is a little more grounded and a little darker. If you see Atomic Blonde, and it is just superb, his taste is definitely in a world that is sort of how you described it. I think he's looking to do something that doesn't look exactly like a Fast movie. Although it's the Fast characters, he's trying to do his own thing with it and give it a real sense of credibility. I think Dave is going to get this one gritty, and real, and fucking hardcore.

While the Fast and Furious franchise started out as a fairly grounded story about illegal street racing, over the course of the series the stakes and the action have been raised to a point where, while the action is still a treat, the situations have gone a little over the top. The last film had Vin Diesel jumping his car over a submarine while Dwayne Johnson diverted torpedoes with his bare hands. There's nothing wrong with that from an action movie standpoint, but "grounded" is not a word you would use to describe it.

It's true that David Leitch is known for a different style of action movie with films like John Wick and Atomic Blonde on his resume. It seems Jason Statham is a particular fan of the latter film and tells Collider he thinks that sort of sensibility will go a long way to inform Hobbs and Shaw.

Of course, it's not like humor is a concept entirely foreign to David Leitch. The man did direct Deadpool 2, which was also an example of Leitch coming into an existing franchise and keeping the tone very much in line with what fans were expecting. Statham does say he thinks the film will still be able to have some fun with itself, so we probably shouldn't expect something that's quite Atomic Blonde levels of gritty.

Hobbs and Shaw will hit theaters next summer. After that, we'll go back to the main series of films, which is expected to see at least two more entries. Whether or not we see more spinoff films may depend on how this one does in theaters in July of 2019.

Star Wars fans are excited that Billy Dee Williams is coming back to the Star Wars franchise, as he's getting ready for that return in the most Billy Dee way possible. The actor recently released a short clip of himself getting into the physical shape to play Lando Calrissian again, and it turns out that Billy Dee Williams so cool that he even works out in shades. Billy Dee Williams says in the post on Twitter that he's feeling better than ever and he's certainly looking good throwing punch after punch at Gunnar Peterson, the personal trainer to the stars that is getting Billy Dee screen ready. While the actor may not look ready to star in the next Rocky movie, he still looks pretty damn good for an 81-year-old actor. He's the last guy in his 80s I'd want to mess with.

Of course, Billy Dee Williams built a reputation over the years of being one cool guy, so of course, he wouldn't bother taking off his sunglasses to workout. That wouldn't be cool enough. Although I can't decide if I like that, or the fact that his workout clothes have his initials, better.

Billy Dee Williams has been working with a personal trainer for some time. In fact, it was his admission that he was doing so that first got the rumor mill going about the possibility of a return to Star Wars. The fact that Williams was working out in the months prior to production starting on Star Wars Episode IX had many wondering if the timing wasn't a coincidence. As it turned out, it wasn't. After being apparently confirmed in the trades, Lucasfilm revealed that Billy Dee Williams would, in fact, be returning to play Lando Calrissian in Star Wars Episode IX. Of course, that doesn't mean we have the first clue how Lando will reenter the story, or where he's been for the last two movies.

It's going to be great to see Lando again, if only because the current Star Wars universe is now somewhat devoid of our favorite characters. While we know that Mark Hamill will be returning, one doesn't expect that a character who is likely now a Force Ghost will have a major role. We also know that Carrie Fisher will be back in Episode IX via the use of deleted scenes from the previous two movies. Though, that too will likely limit how big a part Leia will have. At this point, the only original trilogy mainstay who will likely be really involved in the story is Chewbacca, so bringing Lando back in will be nice for the old school fans. Star Wars Episode IX is now in production and will hit theaters in December 2019.
