Some Madman Watched One Adam Sandler Movie A Day For A Whole Year
We all have favorite actors who we love to watch on screen again and again, but you could you watch your favorite actor over and over again for an entire year? It would be hard for some of us to do that with Tom Cruise or Meryl Streep. Somebody just completed the task with Adam Sandler movies. Eloy Lugo is a massive Sandler fan who, on September 9 of last year (the actor's birthday) began the Year of Sandler, watching one of the comedian's films every single day for 12 months. A parameter that I set up for myself is that I would watch whatever film I was in the mood for instead of watching them in order over and over. Although every once in a while I would switch it up. At the beginning of the year I watched his entire filmography in order. During Hanukkah I watch Eight Crazy Nights eight times in a row. I did a week of The Week Of when it came out, that sort of thing. But mostly I just watched whatever I felt like.
Adam Sandler is hardly the most beloved comedian in Hollywood, so for most the idea of watching multiple Sandler movies in a row, nevermind for a year, is probably not their idea of fun. However, Eloy Lugo clearly loves Sandler. His comments to Vice show that he sees the man as a great actor, not simply a funny guy. He even commends Sandler's performance as Jill in Jack and Jill, and I don't think I'm being too harsh when I say few people would make an argument like that. The movie that sees Sandler play both genders has a 3% Rotten Tomatoes score from critics and only a 36% positive score from the audience.
In fact, Eloy Lugo likes Jack and Jill so much that he says it was one of the films he watched most often, along with 8 Crazy Nights, though he admits sometimes he watched the latter film because it has the shortest runtime in the Sandler filmography, making it an easier watch when he just wanted to get his responsibilities complete.
Needless to say, this is a herculean task that most of us would never dare complete. Of course, many of us would never dare for the simple reason that, a lot of Adam Sandler's movies aren't the sorts that we'd want to watch over and over again. Most of his recent Netflix output has been less than impressive, to say the least. Some of his early movies like Billy Madison and Happy Gilmore are pretty well regarded by fans, but just how many times can you watch those movies before they start to get really old?
