Before they get to the interview, the guys have a lot to discuss. They plug the Chicago Meet Up, which is taking place on Saturday, April 13. That will be during Star Wars Celebration, which Jake and Sean plan to cover.
From there, the guys read an ACTUAL review from Kevins mom. She listened to the show, and shared her thoughts. Its pure gold.
The guys then moved to the casting for Jason Reitmans new Ghostbusters movie, which added Carrie Coon, Finn Wolfhard and McKenna Grace in pivotal roles. The movie remains a mystery of sorts, as we dont even know if the original actors will be returning. We assume, because Reitmans involved, that the Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd and Ernie Hudson will return. But nothing has been confirmed.
You know what was confirmed? Mark Hamill voicing Chucky in the new Childs Play. And thats AWESOME.
Finally, Sean was able to share several key Avengers: Endgame details that he picked up from Anthony Russo on the phone last week. The information was embargoed, but now it can be shared. Hope you dig it.

Aquamans Relationship With Mera Will Be Inspired By Two Classic Action Movies
Superhero movies have featured many different kinds of romantic relationships, from vigilante partners dating to obsessive crushes, but James Wan's upcoming Aquaman should offer up a different flavor for fans of the genre -- specifically with the titular hero (Jason Momoa) and Mera (Amber Heard). Rather than being a long-time colleague turned significant other or a love that needs to be kept secret from the world, the movie will instead take pages out of Raiders of the Lost Ark and Romancing The Stone in mapping that bond. Or as producer Peter Safran puts it,
I wouldn't necessarily call it in this movie a love story... The whole movie is in the vein of Indiana Jones. Y'know, James [Wan] wanted to tell this swashbuckling, fun, quest movie. It's a great time for everybody to see. So the relationship is a little bit Michael Douglas-Kathleen Turner in Romancing the Stone, which is ultimately a romantic action movie. But I wouldn't say it's actually a romance. There is a great antagonism because of the places they come from. She is all about duty and honor, and he's all about looking out for number one.
Last summer I joined a small group of film journalists to fly out to Melbourne, Australia to visit the set of Aquaman when it was still in production, and over the course of the day got to talk with many of the movie's stars and filmmakers. In those interviews, one subject that repeatedly came up was the relationship between Arthur Curry and Mera -- and with those questions came responses about deep love and affection for those movies.
In referencing Raiders of the Lost Ark and Romancing The Stone, what's really being suggested is that Arthur Curry and Mera won't really get along at the start of Aquaman's story (as previewed in last year's Justice League). Much like Indiana Jones and Marion Ravenwood, and Jack Colton and Joan Wilder, they'll be forced together because of circumstance -- specifically on the hunt for the King's Trident -- and in that time learn how to appreciate one another.
During our interview with Jason Momoa, the actor made mention of just how important those two movies were to him when he was growing up. Rather than being into the big action movies of the 1980s and 1990s, he was raised by his mother watching romantic adventures and the classics. As a result, he was thrilled to find those kinds of dynamics in the relationship between Aquaman and Mera, saying,
I love Romancing the Stone - I grew up with my mother. I wasn't watching Conan The Barbarian; I was watching Casablanca and Gone with the Wind and Rear Window and Romancing the Stone. So I loved those movies, what I grew up with, and obviously Raiders. It's like Star Wars, it's just a world we haven't seen before. And, I think the bickering between the two of them [Aquaman and Mera], and also when they slowly start to enjoy each other and fall in love, I think it's just a timeless story that's just fun.
Amber Heard shared similar sentiments, but didn't tie them back to her own movie-watching past. Instead, she noted that what she appreciates about her key relationship in Aquaman is how it allows the film to access many different genre shades while never losing an identity. Specifically, like with Raiders of the Lost Ark and Romancing The Stone, the love goes hand-in-hand with the adventure, rather than being parallel or working at cross purposes. Said the actress,
I actually liked that about this film as well. I was drawn to the script because it didn't sacrifice one element in order to achieve the other. It's as much adventure as it is classic superheroes, as it maintains elements of rom-com. I mean, it has all of these elements -- and of course done by a horror master. So I really like that our film kind of respects all these different genres. I was drawn to the adventure probably the most.
Mera has become a powerful figure in her own right on the pages of DC Comics, and before long fans will be able to see her up on the big screen adventuring with Aquaman. The blockbuster will be in theaters on December 21st -- which should give you plenty of time to rewatch Raiders of the Lost Ark and Romancing The Stone to prepare.

Why Ant-Man And The Wasp Cut Out Some Flashback Scenes
SPOILER WARNING: The following article contains minor spoilers for Ant-Man And The Wasp.One of the coolest things about the lead Marvel heroes in Peyton Reed's Ant-Man And The Wasp is the fact that they are legacy heroes. There was no Iron Man before Iron Man, or a Captain America before Captain America; but before Scott Lang there was Hank Pym, and before Hope van Dyne there was Janet van Dyne. You'd think this fact would have led to the new movie featuring more flashback sequences, but the director recently explained to me in an interview why he didn't take that approach:
It's tricky, because we talked a lot about how to introduce [Hank and Janet], and I always wanted to see some glimpse of them in the '80s. We talked about doing action sequences, we shot some stuff, and it just felt like... I think I've learned this along the way - as much as, as a fan, I want to see flashbacks, the present tense story is the thing. That's the thing that really matters to me - and also that I felt like it didn't want to be action. It really wanted to be emotional grounding, because after all, this is a movie called Ant-Man And The Wasp. It really has to be about the emotion of a daughter finding her mother after all this time.
The screenshot at the top of this article comes from one of those flashback action sequences, as it was featured in the main theatrical trailer for Ant-Man And The Wasp, but anyone who has seen the film will tell you that the moment isn't actually in the movie. Instead, the film really only has two brief looks at the past, and one of them is essentially a recreation of the flashback in the first Ant-Man.
I had the opportunity to bring up scenes with the original Ant-Man and Wasp when I sat down with Peyton Reed a couple weeks ago for an episode of our podcast, HeroBlend. Having noticed the aforementioned cut flashback scene in the trailers, I asked the filmmaker if there were earlier versions of the movie that took more trips to the 1980s. He confirmed that there was originally going to be more of them, but focused primarily on why they didn't make the theatrical cut:
This movie was always going to be Hope finally having the thing that she wanted so badly in the first movie: to be a hero. But it occurred to us along the way, and I talked to Evangeline [Lilly] about this a lot as we were developing the story and then the script, which was she's finally Wasp. Scott has Hank as a mentor, and the one person that Hope would want to turn to who's been there and done that is her mom, and she hasn't been around for 30 years. And now that there's actually this kernel of a chance that she could still be alive, and they could actually find her, it's not only about a reunion with her, but this person who is the ultimate role model for her.

Ant-Man And The Wasp may not feature much of Hank Pym and Janet van Dyne in action, but it should be noted that it does have some key and amazing flashbacks. The opening, featuring a de-aged Michelle Pfeiffer as Janet saying goodbye to young Hope before her last mission, is jaw-dropping, and it's equally great to see the de-aged Lawrence Fishburne as Bill Foster during the telling of Ghost's origin story. Presumably including more scenes set in the 1980s would have slowed down the movie too much, but hopefully we'll get to see what the production shot later this year when this film arrives on home video.
For now, audiences can enjoy the outrageously fun blockbuster on the big screen, as Ant-Man And The Wasp is now in theaters everywhere nationwide.
